Since the Weekend
Its been a busy week so far. I flew in Saturday morning, had breakfast at my parents house, then drove home and went to sleep. I woke up much later than I expected to, and still had to do grocery shopping, and pick up the kids for their time with me. Thankfully my mom made dinner for us so I didn’t have to cook that night.
Unfortunately, however, I completely forgot about the time change until the middle of the next day. I woke up, fed the kids, and thought I was making great time, as they would have enough time, to play, eat lunch, nap, and then we could go visit my parents before I came home to cook. Just after breakfast I realized, I was an hour behind! I just lost an hour in the middle of my day! Great! Now everything is messed up. After lunch, Deen was sleepy so we all took a nap for a couple hours (yes, me included
). We did everything we needed to do and I FINALLY made it home in time to cook dinner. This week’s challenge was chicken and chickpea tagine from Mark Bittman of the NY Times. It turned out quite good, except I did not use raisins (didn’t feel like it) or vanilla bean (couldn’t find it). You can have it with couscous but I had it with rice.

The rest of the week has been busy with errands so far. Monday was back to work, plus had to pick up my new suit and buy a new pair of runners. My old pair broke down on the second last day in Vancouver. Sigh. This time I decided not to buy cheap shoes, last longer and all that. Then, that same night went to see Watchmen. It was an interesting movie, definitely not what I expected. I’m not going to review it because I suck at these kinds of things.
Tuesday I woke up with a cough and grogginess. I drove to work only to wish I had stayed home. I managed through the day and then ran errands before I finally made it home at 8. Long days, and being sick suck! Thankfully the tagine was enough food to last a few days that I ate it for dinner. Followed by sniffles, pain, and chills. I didn’t fall asleep until after 4am. I can’t remember the last time I was this sick.
So tonight I will make the barley and chicken soup again. Can’t wait! Hopefully I’ll be better by Friday as I start the night shift which is no fun when sick

I hope you get better soon! You have to try the tagine with the rasins AND couscous, that is what a tagine is, you changed the recipe lol, but what was important is that you liked it after all:-)

We took my younger brother to go see Watchmen and I was a bit disapointed that the blue guy was always so .. naked.. it was awkward.. :S

The dish looks fantastic. You’re getting addicted to cooking.
Hope you get well soon @ the cough and sniffles

Ya, I heard a lot about the blue… super weapon… too, from Watchman. I took Geeki’s advice and didn’t watch it.
You should try Veal Parmesan. Easy to make and really yummy.

Hope you get better. I was in the same situation as you about a week ago. I can tell you somethings (old school Indian herbal treatment ways) that works for cough:
1. Take almonds (about 4 or 5 of them), put a pinch of salt on them and heat them in a frying pan (with nothing added) for about 5 minutes or so. Then eat them after. Do not drink any water after that.
2. Keep drinking warm water throughout the day
3. In the morning, after brushing your teeth, swallow a tablespoon of honey with black-pepper. Do not drink any water or any food for atleast an hour after this.
4. Before going to bed at night, eat a boiled egg with black-pepper sprinkled on it and go to sleep. DO not drink any water after.
A combination of these did really work for me. I havent tried all of them, but I tried a few and they were effective. It depends on what treatment option your body responds to.

elena: i hope so too. About the tagine…lol..well next time. I completely forgot about the couscous until I got home to cook, and by then it was quite late.
liya: ummm…you took your younger brother and found Doc Manhattan’s “member”ship awkward? What about the Mr. Owl and Ms. Jupiter scene?!?
GS: It’s not your typical superhero movie. Its based on a graphic novel, so there is more realism to it mixed with comic book type characters.
Specs: thanks
Mezba: super weapon…hahahaha. Yes it did appear quite a lot in the movie. Its not a light movie, lot of politics and other such stuff.
Behbood: thanks for the tips. I have been taking honey, and also zinc which for me has worked wonders in the past on numerous occasions.

V wanted to see the movie – he chose it! I told him we should have taken my brother to see Confessions of a Shopaholic but everyone was ignoring me! I made my brother close his eyes during that scene though. A simple pinch on the arm is all he needs

Are you feeling better now? I was told to drink honey added with lemon juice and warm water to clear my irritating cough. But I never got around to do it!:D Try it maybe it’ll work for you.
Btw how many days did the tangine last?!

liya: you wanted to take V and your brother to a chick flick? oh the shame! haha
Lat: I am better today thanks. The stuffiness all but gone. I’ve tried the honey lemon tea before. Mom used to make it for me
The Tangine lasted until Wednesday, but I was stuffy by then and couldn’t smell if it was still good
Didn’t wanna risk it.
isheeta: that’s what I was thinking too…I mean he doesn’t have to block his eyes for those scenes…he’ll miss the whole movie!
Sumera: I actually made Chicken and Barley soup again. And slept in most days and started work late.
Taiba: I am, almost have it licked, thanks.
UTP: Same thing Lena said…haha…wonder if it tastes the same.
